SHENZHEN SHA TAU KOK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Shenzhen, Guangdong
2018
An open campus that maximizes activity space.
Sha Tau Kok Middle School will build a new elementary school with 18 classes in the original site.
The design makes full use of the overhead part of the first floor and the roof garden of the second floor, connecting into an overall continuous activity platform, maximizing the different types of venues for students' activities, communication and learning, planting and teaching.
The spiraling split-level platform creates a rich line of sight for the atrium. The gradual resting platform is combined with the atrium, forming a three-dimensional, multi-type activity and informal learning space, and combining with different school ages, different activity content and furniture configuration.
The atrium opens to the city park, hoping to establish a closer connection between the primary school students and the city's natural environment, as well as a greater understanding of the school's educational activities by the urban community.
